3D base is the ultimative handy tool for the 3D photographer to optimize the 3D effect and avoid failures like fall short of the minimum distance which make the taken 3D picture unusable. A landscape photo with a too small base of the cameras leads to a flat picture.

3D base can calculate the

- maximal base distance of the cameras
- maximum permissible distance of any point in the picture
- minimum permissible distance of any point in the picture
- max focal length of the lens

in dependency of distances, focal length and camera base.

Additional parameters are the sensor size and the maximum allowable relative shift between the pictures on the camera sensors.

From the list in the app select the applicabel camera sensor size. In analog time it has been mostly 24x36mm. With the use of digital cameras there is a lot of variations of the sensor sizes existing. This causes that simplified rules, for example to calculate the min distance, does not fit anymore.

The shift between the left and right picture on the camera sensor becomes bigger as closer the objects are. From experience a value of 1/30 does fit best. So in the setting the relative shift should be set to 30.

Experienced 3D photographer may use different values.

In the list of the camera sensors you find following sizes:
